so wondering what the official rules or and also some guidelines for taking your puppy or dog to a dog park
we've heard to wait til our husky 4 months, had his second sets of shots done, rabbies shots, basic commands [which he has accomplished]
we have gone to puppy obedience classes for 6 weeks with 2 weeks left. he's done amazing with socializing with other puppies and dogs.
we've never taken him to a dog park, down here in ontario. when we were in iqaluit there were no such things you just let your dog play with all the other billion dogs up there [keep in mind, iqaluit is in the arctic]
one more question. how do you know when a puppy is just playing or is fighting? thats somethng ive already wondered.
do we need to let him off the leash? is it a good idea to let him off the leash in the fenced park?
i don't want to take him to a dog park til he's absolutely readyDog Park Rules/Guidelines?
Since he has been in puppy class I would assume he has had all his shots and can go to a dog park if he is 4 months old. Our dog park rules don't allow the dogs to be on leash. Most parks have separate sections for large and small dogs. Puppies usually go into the small dog section unless they are over 20 pounds. You and your dog will have lots of fun running and playing togethere there.
Puppies can be quite noisy and show their teeth when they are playing. Your dog is too young to actually get into a fight but puppies playing sometimes appear to be fighting. You'll be able to tell the difference if he gets into a fight. It's about the same way you can tell if kids are playing or fighting.Dog Park Rules/Guidelines?
A lot fo these questions will vary depending on your state. I know in VA there is a leash law. So, google these laws for your state.
Fighting can usually be determined by the showing of the teeth (fighting) deep growling, and raised back hair. Also, look to see if your pup freezes. That's one step away from a serious bite. Normally playing includes bowing and pouncing. It can be rough, so you just have to get to know the signs for your dog.
I'd wait approx 4 months before taking my pup out to be on the safe side...better safe than sorry. Hope this helps!
