How do you get your dog to stop barking cause it wants to play catch, when you have guests over ?

We have a awesome Queensland Healer That LOVES to play catch!!! We are trying to train him not to bark so much %26amp; be so pushy %26amp; impatient when we are playing catch with him, But when we have company over in the back yard he is way over barring %26amp; pushy and will bark for us to throw the ball until he gets his way. I want to train him to stop barking when we tell him too. we tried hiding the toys , we tried telling him NO, we tried ignoring him but still very Impatient %26amp; pushy! Please help! If any one has any suggestions.How do you get your dog to stop barking cause it wants to play catch, when you have guests over ?
This is something that will take time and consistency from you, but it certainly can be done. Step one is that from this point on, don't ever give in to your dog's barking for games. I know it's difficult - the dog is barking, you want five minutes peace and quiet, and so you pick up the ball or toy and throw it. However, every time you do this, you're reinforcing the lesson for him that, ';If I bark long enough, they will play with me.';

Secondly, you can carry out some training sessions to try and eliminate this behaviour, but don't start this when you're having company over. They will be an added distraction for him. Go outside with him for just a minute, but don't play catch or pick up the ball. While he's quiet, give him praise and treats. The second he starts barking, turn around and take him back inside. Once he's quiet again, take him back outside, and repeat the process. Be patient, because the first few times you do this, he will just keep barking. With time, though, the length of time you can stay outside should increase.

Heelers are smart dogs, and he will learn if you are consistent, but you do need to be patient. You're trying to eliminate his current behaviour, i.e. that bark = play, and replace it with bark = fun stops, quiet = lots of praise. That will take time to do. I don't know if it'll help your dog - but I use a dog whistle on my lab when he starts acting like that. He hates the noise - all I have to do now is just hold it up so he can see it when he starts acting out and he settles right down. However - I have three other dogs that don't even take notice when I blow it...so I guess different dogs respond differently to it.
Put him on a leash and tie him to you.

If he's pushy, put him on a ';down stay'; and keep him there by standing on the leash. Give him just enough slack to lay down. If he stands up, it will pull his head into an uncomfortable position. He'll learn quick that he's to lay quietly until he's told it's play time.

Other hints:

Don't allow him to initiate play. Put all his toys up where he can't get them and only bring them out when YOU want to play.

Use a loud noise or citronella spray to discourage pushyness. When he barks at you, immediately give the discouragement.

Queenslands Heelers need an EXTREME amount of exersize. Tired dogs are well behaved dogs. Run him before people come over.

Crate him when people come over.
Play Barking

Some dogs are particularly noisy when they play with people or with other dogs. If you have multiple dogs and they like to bark while they play, put them outside so they don鈥檛 bother you. If they bother the neighbors, bring them inside and separate them during times when you can鈥檛 tolerate the barking. Encourage the dogs to play with toys so they have something in their mouths. If your dog barks while playing with you, simply play different games鈥攊f he barks while wrestling with you, teach him to play tug-of-war or fetch games. It unfair to expect dogs not to play, so make arrangements for your dog to play (and bark) at times when it won鈥檛 disturb people.

You could try playing catch with him before the guests come over and try to wear your dog out. If not, try massaging him. It will help calm him down. Also if he calms down after barking and pushing and whatever he does, throw him a treat, praise him. Then he will know that if he calms down, he will get a treat!
hmmm, dude idk if this works but i have like 7 dogs, anytime they bark we use the word ';halu';, lol, the dogs respond would go away or stop barking, or we would give it food or something to play with.

the best way is to know more about your dogs actions, take time know what it wants and its actions or probably something is bothering him.

He probably feels that he is lonely and wants to spend more time with its owner.
