I was just wandering what others do to keep their yard clean?
Every time my dogs go I go after them and pick their droppings with my hands in plastic bag inside out. Is there any better way to do it? Sometimes it takes forever for me to find them... I have three young children so I would like to keep the yard clean for them to play.
Thank you!How do you clean after your dog in your backyard?
We have an area that is sectioned off in our yard for him to do his business. Each time we take him out we go there, since he is still a puppy we have to go out there everytime to make sure he goes in that spot. My previous dog learned the routine and only went in that area- so it easier to clean up since you know where to look. How do you clean after your dog in your backyard?
do the same thing but pick up the poop right after the dog does its buissness
I use a Rake and Shovel immediately after they poop so it's easier to find...
That's how we do it, but we only pick up every couple days because we're lazy.
We do encourage him to ';go'; in a certain spot, though, that's over in the corner and out of the way. He only bothers going there if someone's outside with him, though, so that he knows he can get a treat.
Just two days ago we bought something called the ';Doggie Dooley System'; or something odd like that. My dad described it as a sort of septic tank for dogs or something. We have to dig a four-foot-deep hole (off in the corner, behind the shed) and plant the thing in the ground. Then we just Pooper-Scoop the feces into the fancy hole every day where it breaks down into the earth, instead of having to bag the poops and put them in the special metal trash can we have.
EDIT: We don't have much trouble finding the droppings here.. have you ever seen a mastiff-sized BM? I swear, it's like a pile of horse dung.
I go out there with a pooper scooper every other day and throw the poop in the compost heap.
I use a pooper scooper.

Train your dog to poop in a certain area. That way you know exactly where its at and I would recommend a pooper scooper. I have one that is long enough that I dont have to bend over. I have three dogs and they all go in the same area but after awhile bending down starts to hurt the back.
i live in a wooded area, so i go out to the yard every couple days pick it up with the poopy claw and fling it :)
I always counsel dog owners to supervise their dogs at all times outside the home (and with children).
Since I do this, myself, it's an easy thing to scamper over to where my dog is about to go (since I'm out there with her, and see her) and ';catch';. (I usually catch the feces before it hits the ground.) That way, I just have to tie the bag and put it in a bin. If I let it hit the ground, I have to scrounge around, making sure it got it all up. Even then, I don't think I'd want to walk barefoot over that area. (And I like to be barefoot in my own yard!)
It is just completely unbelievable to me that there are people who leave their dogs' feces lying around. It's just gross...and unsanitary.
Every time it rains, there's the potential of the feces (and/or the bacteria it contains) washing down the storm sewers and directly into lakes and streams (since everyone should know that storm sewers aren't part of the water treatment system). This exacerbates the problem of tainted drinking water.
I won't even begin to discuss the losers who leave their dogs' feces in public places. But even on private propery...why would anyone want feces laying around? Why??
