tell me! i always read the answers! i don't care how long they are! even if you have 3 dogs! write about them! i want people to open up about their dogs, theirs likes and dislikes, how they learned from their mistakes, it inspires me to do better with my baby too! feel free to give me some tricks to teach my puppy too! Show me pictures!
i have one dog, he's a GSD. he's so cute! (14 months now)i got him at 3 months and he is just amazing. he wasn't destructive, except, i did one huge mistake! i left him in my room for about 4 hours because i went to church. when i came home, there was HUGE crap in the middle of my room on my carpet! i think he might've stepped on it and ate some because he pulled my pillows off my bed, it had poop and his tent was out of place and ruined, and my lotions and perfumes on the floor! but i didn't freak because i knew it was my fault. although it was disgusting to clean. i put plastic bags on my carpet, so my room was cover with plastic garbage bag papers. he'd pee in my room but at least on the garbage bag. i did that for about 1 month. and he got the idea of going to washroom. he learned that he won't always be in my room and he'd go to the backyard door to go. now, i use do you wanna go potty? and he knows what that means. he wasn't a problem with potty training, as a matter of fact, i never trained him on it! its like it just came to him. he use to pee in the basement when we weren't home and now he doesn't because i go him use to when i go out as soon as i come home it's time to potty. he knows how to sit, lay down, hi5, paw, roll over, jump (which now he hops the fence once in a while to play with his friend.) he knows what inside is, downstairs, come, stay, fetch(well not exactly because he won't give me the ball back.). he's really great with dogs, he use to hide behind the benches when we went to the dog park, now he runs and plays. he's been in 3 dog fights (TERRIBLE!) one was over food the other because he stuck up for himself, because it was another GSD and she use to bite at him and he woulnd't then he bit her face, but thank god it wasn't severe. he fought a female husky, because i brought meat outside and she didn't wanna share and she bit him and he bit back, he had the leash on and i pulled him away (he was 3 months! now they're best friends).
i love to bother him sometimes (what dog owner doesn't, don't deny it). like i'll say ';vamonos';(spanish meaning let's go) and he'll go to the front door and start going in circles around the house and barking at me, which is funny. another thing i do to bother him, i'll have meat, when we eat chicken, i'll tease him with it, but eventually give it to him.
he has a killer puppyface! fall for it everytime!he's just an amazing companion. and he protects. oh he does! he's very protective, but gentle with the people he knows. he's wary, before as a puppy he'd go up to everyone, now! ha! not anymore! he hasn't bitten anyone and he does;t like cats. he once ran after a cat up the wall then up a tree! IT WAS HILARIOUS! its because that cat swapped at him as a puppy, aand i think he wasnt revenge.
tell me about your dog! SHOW ME PICTURES!

I have an English Mastiff named Grimm. We got him at six weeks (I know, I know); he's now almost twenty months old.
He was fairly easy to potty train. As long as we kept an eye on him, there was no real problem. We crate trained him, and didn't leave him alone for long periods in the beginning. When he was about six or seven months old, we suddenly realized he hadn't had any accidents for awhile, so I'm not quite sure how old he was when he stopped. He quickly got the hang of standing by the door and giving us a certain ';look'; when he had to go. Now he's amped it up to whining if we aren't paying attention.
He was never very destructive. He gnawed on a few chair rungs, but the damage was minimal, just a few teeth marks on chairs that are already worn and old. He did totally destroy a pair of my mom's slippers, though. He picked them up, and she never corrected him and just let him have them. Oy. But that was the extent of the damage, really.
As a young puppy, he did get into the habit of eating rocks though. Oy! At one point, he had to stay at the animal hospital for a few days for observation in case he needed surgery to relieve an obstruction. (Luckily, he did pass the rocks.) We had to comb through our backyard and remove every rock we could find, and tarp over the walkway, which was made of rocks and pebbles. Thank goodness he grew out of it during winter when he couldn't reach the actual ground through ice and snow anyway.
Although we tried to always make the crate a very cozy, roomy area, he never took to it. Finally, when he was about a year old, we just gave up and took the crate down. No problem. He slept straight through the night, and still does. He still hates the crate, although if necessary, we are able to use it.
He's typically very well-mannered with our belongings. He doesn't destroy anything. He doesn't steal anything. Every once in awhile, when he's pumped up, he might pick up a sock from the ground, but he doesn't do anything to it. It's just a simple matter of telling him, ';Drop it,'; or just taking it from his mouth. And when he does have something else in his mouth, we have no fear in reaching inside his mouth and taking it. Well, I do fear the slobber. ;-) Besides regular items, he's pretty much trustworthy around food. He's never swiped anything from the counters. The single, solitary incident I can remember is when I was teaching him ';doggy zen'; by tempting him with a fresh cupcake on the very edge of the table (which was shorter than him). He did get half of it. Besides that, I can leave things around without fear. Just the other night I left a full plate of sausages and syrup on the couch and left the room, which he was in, and he didn't touch them. (And considering how much he was drooling over them, I know he wanted them! He did get a morsel for behaving so well.)
All mastiffs are guardian breeds. The English Mastiff, being ';the'; mastiff, is certainly no exception. If he has reason to believe someone is near the house (on the sidewalk, on the other side of the fence, at the door, etc.), prepare to be deafened, his bark's like thunder. Growling, howling, groaning, hackled raised. For all the world, he looks like he's ready to kill whoever is there. But the very second he actually gets to meet the person, he's all elephant ears and wiggling and too happy to handle. He *loves* people. You should see him when we go to Petsmart. He's catching on to sitting for strangers to pet him, so any time someone goes by, he automatically sits in the hopes that they'll come over.
Now, he's not as great with other dogs. Don't get me wrong, he literally doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. But he's a pretty exuberant puppy, so I'm still working hard on keeping him from trying to get every dog he meets to play. He pulls like crazy sometimes to say hi to another dog. Once he settles down, though, he's lovely with other dogs. He isn't territorial in the least, when it comes to other dogs. For instance, he is an intact, super-hormonal boy. (Intact. Not neutered.) But that doesn't impact his behavior. All of his ';friends'; are other males -- two neutered seniors and one intact male of the same age. All of them have visited our home. The intact boy marked up our entire backyard and was possessive of my dog's water bowl.. and my dog just laid on the deck and soaked up being petted by the other dogs' owners. He has no reason to feel possessive over any items or food. He has great manners when I am handling food with him and other dogs. I can easily take any treat or food from him, including bully sticks and huge bones. I can stick my hand in his food dish and touch him anywhere while he's eating.
He has a very low prey drive. I wouldn't tolerate him going after a cat or other small animal. He doesn't care about the squirrels and geese on our walks. He likes my pet rats, but they like to pester him, so they don't interact much. He does like to bug the cats every once in awhile, but it's nothing serious. In fact, I blame the cats. One of my cats will sit there and literally tease him, meow, rub against his face all lovey-dovey-like, and then smack him in the muzzle and bite his forehead. My cat is such a loon.
He knows sit; down; sit-stay; down-stay; wait; touch (in which he touches his nose to a blue target); palm (in which he touches his nose to your palm); left paw; right paw; shake (either paw); crawl (only on carpet or grass/dirt); up (like up onto the couch); off (like off the couch); leave it; drop it; stop; quickly (like if I need to jog while we're on a walk); slowly (like if it's icy out and we have to almost tiptoe); come.. that's all I remember. He's best at wait. A long time ago, in one of his training classes, he was the only dog who was able to stay put in the middle of the store aisle while two dogs ran by him on either side and I was in a different aisle until he was released. He was to wait every meal before it's given to him because pestering is annoying, and by now he automatically sits and waits until given permission to eat. I tried to get him to learn roll over, but he just wasn't comfortable with it, so I felt no need to push him to learn a superfluous trick. (Maybe someday.) Right now, I'm trying to teach him focus, to make and hold eye contact. He's having so much trouble with it!! He's so easily distracted.
He's typically great on walks, no problems. I walk him on an Easy Walk Harness, which is a harness that clips on the chest, not the back. For the most part, he's perfect. Every once in a blue moon (literally, it's pretty infrequent), he just HAS to go say hi to a certain person or dog. I just have to stand like a tree and wait it out. But that hasn't even happened on a walk in a couple months. (Still happens tons at the pet store, though.)
Every EM I know goes through something called the ';zoomies.'; It's annoying. At least once a day, for about two minutes, he tears around like an absolute maniac. If you're in his way, he's going to bounce himself off of you. I've received many huge claw marks from that. When you're out of the way, though, it's fun to watch.
He's easy to bathe. It took a little while to teach him to step into the tub on his own, though, as he's much too large to lift. He just couldn't figure out how to lift his hind feet into the tub. I was luring him with hot dogs, and finally, he just did it. Like he'd been doing it all his life. As for the baths themselves, he doesn't have much of a problem. He doesn't really enjoy it, but he tolerates it perfectly well. We use a Dremel to trim his nails, and to make it easier, my brother feeds him tiny bits of food like hot dog while I Dremel his nails. He's fine with both of those things, but he hates having his ears clean. I can do it pretty easily, but it still makes him obviously agitated and uncomfortable.
He loves going to the vet. He loves people, remember?
He loves to de-stuff his toys. That's his favorite part. He sometimes chews and sucks on his stuffed toys like he's nursing from them.
He doesn't care for car rides. He doesn't freak out, but he's clearly uncomfortable, and pants and drools. It isn't ridiculous, though, he is able to simply lay down and wait out the ride.
We are transitioning him from Canidae All Life Stages to Fromm Four-Star food. His usual treats are Milk-Bones, Pet Botanics food rolls and some sort of jerky. The single food he just flat-out dislikes is bananas, weirdly enough.
I have thirteen pages of pictures of him, and that's just the tip of the iceberg:

Over the past 28 years my husband and I have owned six dogs, 4 of them we still have with us. They have all been ';Curbstone Setters'; which is a fancy way to give mutts a bit of class - LOL. Our dogs have inspired me in many ways but the biggest way was to start a company whose mission is to help rescue animals and rescue organizations. Especially in these tough economic times we all need to pitch in to help pets wherever we can. A local SPCA has started giving away dog and cat food once a week for 2 hours to anyone who cannot afford to feed their pets. My website www.curbstonesetters.com donates 10% to my customers' favorite rescue animal organizations. If you have a pile of newspapers take the old ones to your local SPCA.
The story of all of our ';Curbstone Setters'; can be read on my blog at www.curbstonesettersblog.com. Hopefully, the stories of Bandit, Frisky, Sugar, Jindy, Midget and Munchkin will inspire others to adopt their next canine companion from a local animal rescue organization. And in the meantime you can shop for quality dog products at curbstonesetters.com and let me donate to your local animal rescue shelters.

%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; This is my female Labrador Retriever named Scout. She is 4 years old and we got her when she was about 10 weeks. We take her to our summer home in Alaska every summer and she loves it. I live by the river so I will go fishing about every day...she loves it. She will stand on the tires in the water(so the boats don't hit land) and paw at the minnows swimming around and dunk her head under the water trying to get them. Its really cute. Sometimes I will throw a big glob of salmon eggs in front of her so more fish will come. She has never caught one. Shes goofball...when I take my little sister sledding she always slides down the hill on her belly. Scout is really protective and I know I'm safe with her. At my summer home in Alaska I'm usually charged by moose and she takes care of it! Here in Colorado I once turned around to see a couple Coyotes chasing me...she took care of that. The only problem is she is always trying to protect me when I don't need protected...like against some sweet old lady...then last summer a guy was sexually harassing me and she didn't really do anything....then a guy was trying to get me to go in the woods with him and she didn't do anything. Ugh. Retard. :)
your dog sounds wonderful! :) i have two westies no pictures on fortunately but here is a similar one!

One is skinny one is fat and they are both stupid but i love them!
What an awesome question! I currently have four dogs, Cody, Berkeley, Molly, and Quincy.
Cody is my oldest dog. He's an 11 year old golden retriever and LOVES people. He does not care who you are, he's happy to see you. We got him from a neighbor who couldn't spend enough time with him when he was around a year old. He and our cat love each other and love to cuddle and lick each other. When he started getting older, we decided to get another dog, Berkeley.
Berkeley is a golden retriever (mix possibly) that we got from the shelter. He and Cody get along very well. They romp every day, which is really fun to watch. I love to play games with him, mostly fetch because he really loves his ball, but also training games. One fun game that all four dogs and I play is where I break up a treat into small pieces and hide them all over the yard. Then I release the dogs and let them sniff out the pieces. They all enjoy it. Berkeley is our noisiest dog, but it's not because he barks. He makes groaning noises often when he lays down or stretches.
Molly is a three year old shih tzu. We actually found her as a stray and searched for a quite a while for her owners. Her personality didn't fully emerge for about two months. She used to be a very sedate dog, and now she's quite funny. She likes to chase a ball, but since most of our balls are the normal size tennis balls, she has a hard time picking them up. She gets really excited for breakfast and dinner where she jumps in the air and twtiches almost like she's having a seizure, but it's cute. When she first started living with us, she really wanted to play with our big dogs, but we were afraid she might get hurt since they're so much bigger than her. This is what led us to get Quincy.
Quinct just turned one year old. He's a male shih tzu we adopted from someone who wasn't able to care for him. He and Molly play a lot. They like to jump at each other and make tiny little growling noises. He also likes to growl at you in the morning when he's excited.
One of our daily routines that the dogs all love is when I cut up a carrot into small pieces and feed them to them. I make sure all the dogs sit first and they all patiently wait their turn. Sometimes I like to include cooked meat when it's available.
My dog is named Ollie.
I got him when I was 5 years old and he is the best thing that ever happened to me.
He is a pure yellow lab, who has a strong broad body. He is the cutest thing alive! I love him so much. He does the cutest things. If i'm siting on the ground he'll come over and put his paw on my leg. He is adorable. He is so friendly and playfull even tho he is getting old, he is 9 now. He has so many funny quirks and characteristics about him which make him so unique. He is the type of dog that everyone instantly loves when they meet him.
He is beautiful and always has a smile on his face :)
He knows how to:
Sit, lie down, shake (hands), wait for an extended period of time
Here is Ollie at christmas: http://s368.photobucket.com/albums/oo125…
Here is Ollie in the meadow outside my house: http://s368.photobucket.com/albums/oo125…

and one more:http://s368.photobucket.com/albums/oo125…
Got a Shi-Tzu just before Christmas. He's 6 months old and a real ';keeper.';
Very people friendly and just full of play.
His name is Dee-Oh-Gee (D-O-G) and the neighbors all love him to death.
We've bought him doggie toys, but his favorite is a simple empty plastic pop bottle and one of my old tennis shoes. He slaps it around and chases it like he thinks he's a Cat.
We got him because we had to put down our previous dog last 4th of July. He was a Sheltie that we had for a long time.
