Thanks!
And please only answer if you are positive your answer is right! What does it mean when your dog howls at loud noises?
The sound probally hurts the dogs ears. A dogs hearing is way better than a humans. They can hear sounds that we cannot even hear...so imagine hearing sounds like that with ears like that. My grandma's chihuaha does the same thing and my mom always says he's just singing....but really he just has very sensitive ears and he's letting you know the noise is hurting his ears. What does it mean when your dog howls at loud noises?
AGH! You are all WRONG! Dogs howl because they are social/pack animals. I am a professional singer, and I live in a big house-when I sing, my dog comes in the room to howl with me. This happens only when I sing descending scales/arpeggios, not ascending.

Well,, dogs howl at damn near anything LOL!
Yes put the dog out. The loud noises are very painful for a dog's sensitive ears.
its afraid; so it barks off loudly because it thinks that it'll go away if it heres something scary
Dogs howl when you suck on your instrument. Spare the dog and practice with a mute.
usually when a dog howls at nothing there is a super high pitched noise that humans can't hear because we don't have the same complexity that dogs and other animals have. many believe that the super natural may be of presence when they howl also
lol!! when they howl at loud musical noises then it could be either one of those options. but if you are really worried about it, then when you are practicing your trumpet, just go in a different room than your dog and it shouldn't be a problem.
Sometimes it hurts there ears so they howl, and actually, sometimes they like the noise and sing along! My dog likes it! Check it's tail if it wags then it probably likes it. If it isn't I suggest putting it outside.
I'm not exactly sure why dogs howl, but here's what happens with my dog. We have 2 jack russells, one male and one female. The female does not howl ever. The male sometimes howls when he gets excited, but you can also make him howl by producing a certain note with your voice (also works with my dad's guitar - I think it's an E). He does not seem to be in pain or anything, and if you howl with him he will keep going until you stop. As far as I can tell, it's probably an instinct thing, like if they hear another dog (or in this case, me) howling, they will howl too because that's what they would do in the wild. I have had him around plenty of loud/unpleasant noises, and he just leaves the room so the ';drowning out the noise'; thing doesn't really make sense.
To make a long story short, if the dog howling is messing with your practice, you should put him outside. Is it hurting the dog? I seriously doubt it.
In my experience, dogs are most likely to howl when they interpret a sound as being from someone or something in pain. My Rottie has a couple of tunes that are frequently heard on TV that make him stop everything and howl along. It's not loud enough to hurt his ears, it's more like he's sympathizing with someone's pain.
