So i took my dog to the pool for the first time today to teach him how to swim....we met his friend a little chihuahua girl and she went with us to the pool. Both dogs played and were curious about the water but neither had gone in the pool before. It was a beautiful day with about 85degree weather but the water was still a little cool.My stupid pooch Wallace didn't know anything about water and when the chihuahua ran to the other side of the pool he did the most logical thing and that was to ';run'; across the pool. So in he jumps and he immediately sank like a stone to the bottom of the pool. My heart stopped. That's when my mommy instinct kicked in and I just jumped in the pool clothes and everything. He's a big dog like about 50 pounds and it took me a while to get him to shore but he seemed fine. He just shook it off and then went right on to chase after his girlfriend again. I was terrified. But after a while I started to laugh because it just looked too funny the way he just thought he could walk on the water....anyway.
Do you feel like a mom to your dog?
What crazy things did your dog do that made your mommy instincts kick in?Do you feel like a mommy to your dog?
Haha yea I do, especially now that I have a new puppy. I feel like i'm actually dealing with two toddlers sometimes -.-
I think the worst thing that's happened that required my mommy instincts to kick in was when my grown dog got a stick lodged in the roof of her mouth. She suddenly started clawing at her mouth and hitting her head against the ground so I totally freaked out. I thought she was choking and/or dieing. As soon as I saw that stick my whole hand was in her mouth trying to yank it out. It was *really* lodged in there. I'm not sure that was even a smart move pulling it out myself...but my instincts took over and getting that stick out was the first and only thought in my mind.
And then after that I was so worried it'd happen again that I spent an hour getting rid of every tiny stick in my backyard :Do you feel like a mommy to your dog?
|yes!
my dogs is like my sons and daughters
i take care of my pets just like my parent take care of me!
yes! I love my little alex. he's my baby. even my dad says go to your mom alex when hes in his way!
Yes, always
Yea I do feel like a mommy to my dog because I am their for her when she needs me which is all the time..and sometimes I am like ok mommy is coming with your food. Some people think you should not treat your dog like a baby or a child but it is hard not to when they are so adorable! :)
Totally.....there's this time when my dog was hurt, for she got hit by a car on the road, I felt like my heart was gonna melt that I wanted to save her and take her place. She was saved after all because my uncle knew that I loved my dog so much...I still thank my uncle for saving her that day.
yes yes yes I love my baby everyone know who im talking about when i speak of my big baby :)
I feel more like a sister to my dog, but my parents call me her mommy. I'm glad you care about your dog and other peoples dogs. Great story.
Baby A
YES!!! I have had quite a few scares with my little min pin and have freaked out one to many times over her. once she tried jumping in my suburban and being 4 lbs soaking wet it doesn't take much of an Imagination to see that she wasn't going to make it. she fell backwards and hit her head and she was out like a light! I thought she was dead!!! she was barely breathing! I turned her onto her back and rubbed her belly making air and her heart move all the while balling my eyes out! It felt like 10 min but was probably more like 10 seconds she was awake and looking a little dazed she got extra special attention that night!!!
Hi i feel like a mommy every day to all of my dogs i live on a ranch with lots of dogs and have to watch them every minute so they don't get kicked by a horse, kicked by a cow, run over by the tractor or fall in the water tank. I have learned to have eyes in the back of my head. So i know what you mean, I had a dog get kicked in the mouth by one of the horses and my dog thought i did it and wouldn't let me up to her for some time to look at her mouth. I also had a dog that my husband dropped a railroad tie (huge fence post) on top of her thank god the ground was soft from a rain. I grabbed her and drove to the vet 55 miles away like a maniac i thought for sure she would die but she made it through without any problems. Having so many dogs we have had many many experiences and some heartbreaking and others have been tons of laughs. So keep on being that mommy and your dog will live a long and happy life. Good Luck.
While I try to be the calm assertive pack leader, I also feel like Mommy.
I Heimliched my puppy once.
My answer is most definitely yes! :)
Your story reminded me of when our girl Artie accidentally fell into our pool in the middle of the winter in the middle of the night and we had to get her out. :)
I love my dog but I also have two daughters and can honestly say that while I would react and feel the same way you did - I do not feel anything close to a mommy to my dog. He is a family pet that we adore but not a family member. I guess that we protect and love living things but the way I feel about my children is much different and stronger..
I was both terrified of and disgusted by dogs for years until two fell into my life one day. My parents always said that dog owners are chained to their house for the life of the dog, can't go out, etc. I always snickered at people who sent their dogs to chemo or bought them clothing because I thought, after all, they're ';just'; dogs.
Dogs are incredible creatures. Their life span is short because they get all the need to get done in life in a much shorter period that humans. They well-deserve that 'mommy' instinct.
