What is you pet peeve about owning your breed of dog?

The difference in how people treat Tori my black and tan Dobermann and JJ my brown and tan Dobermann.

People gravitate towards JJ because of his sunny personality, remark on the colour of his coat and are happy to let him play with the dogs and near children. All too often it's the exact opposite with ToriWhat is you pet peeve about owning your breed of dog?
People thinking she's ugly.

That one ticks me off more than any other thing. I've never seen something more beautiful.

Also people thinking *all* Pugs are unhealthy...not true. What is you pet peeve about owning your breed of dog?
People get beagles because they think they're cute, and that's what really annoys me. There are far too many in shelters because they turned out to be quite a handful, especially for a small dog.
People expect my dachshund to be uber stubborn and have slipped disks a-plenty. They also can't believe how fast he can run because of those ';little legs!!!';

Oh and because he is a wirehaired, everyone thinks he is mixed or a Schnauzer, or a terrier, or a million other crazy breeds. :P
People usually avoid coming near my APBT. Makes me laugh but it annoys me at the same time.
My two pits

Whiskey *looked* like a APBT, but Cowboy looked like a black lab mix

everyone would say how good my lab mix was, and ignore Whiskey

then I told them what Cowboy was ant they walked away.....
uh well.

mia the jack russel: likes cats too much. and what they produce. YUCK.

and Tango, the boston terrier, flatulence. its a gross thing.

but i love them.
People think my pit bull mix is dangerous.

He's actually the biggest wimp of a dog I know, even the cat (less than 1/8 his size) scares him.
its a pet peeve but i am also amused

1) people cross the street when i walk my dog on the leash

2) people who own great danes and labs will get scared of my dog (who is smaller than theirs)

3) when we walk into the dog park owners of small dogs will usually pick them up although there were already plenty of larger dogs than mine.

she is a doberman, who doesn't bark or growl and gets picked on all the time in the park by other dogs. She is very sweet and well socialized and yet people see her from a mile and their first instinct is to run.

i do encourage people to pet her and say hello to debunk some of the myths about this breed but i do get amused at times.

oh i though of another one: people bringing their 2 year olds to the dog park (really? are you willing to take that risk?)

i've seen a golden puppy jump of a child who i am sure was scared for life. no harm but the kid freaked out
The fact that I picked a herding dog annoys me, Pembroke Welsh Corgi. He is so very stubborn. A herding dog has to be stubborn to not give up on whatever it is they are herding. But boy do I love him.

My mom tells me he was tailor made for my personality, and reminds her of me when I was growing up.
I feel that it doesn't matter on what your dog looks like. Just as long as the personality is good. There could be a really cute dog and when you go to pet it, it snaps at you.
Poor Tori has Hollywood's curse, I feel your pain, I have the horrible American Pit Bull Terrier and people either love him or hate him. I love him to death he is the best dog I have had in a long time, he always seems happy and loves to ride in the car or go for walks. Sadly it's the media who have sensationalized these dogs and bad dog owners. Give Tori a pat on the head from me because not everyone dislikes the black/tan dobbie.
people hate my jack russell because he is crazy but thats just the breed and they dont understand and they hate my golden retriever because she barks and they say shes not supposed to and they only like my lhasa apso for his looks
Here is mine.

I have a Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix (we think she may have some lab or beagle in her as well) and they automatically assume that she is hyper and bounces off the walls even if she is sitting nicely at my feet when they meet her.

She is the most calm and docile dog I've ever know infact I would call her lazy.

She is anything but high energy.

Also I hate it because of her look everyone assumes she's a male

and that our poodle Zack is a female.

More people are scared of her because of her look and really they should be more scared of our poodle he would snap before her (especially if he felt she were being threatened)

Here are my pups

People in general who dont like dogs!

I have three sociable little dogs and because they run to meet and greet mostly some people push them out the way.

If you dont like my kids, I dont like you ...Simple
I have a beagle/great dane named La Qui. She's the easiest dog ever, but the thing I like least about her is the fact that she sometimes attacks our cats, and almost always attacks other dogs. But she's really cute :)
Whenever people stop to look and stroke my two Labs, all the attention is directed towards Milly, and Amy is generally ignored, she's got used to it now, and just sits down and waits for them to stop fussing over Milly so she can get on with her walk.

It's always the same, ';Oh look, a chocolate Lab, isn't she cute'; anyone would think they'd never seen one before.

One day in York l even had a group of Japanese tourist get their cameras out and start taking photos of her.

The chocolate ones sure do get a lot of attention.

Edit...Pugs are gorgeous Fallon, those cute little faces, some people are just ignorant and stupid, best to just walk away and ignore them.
People get Chihuahua's to carry in purses and to dress up like Barbie.

People constantly ask if 3 of my 4 are teacups because they are small. I guess too stupid to see they are real dogs and not made of china.

I also get asked if they are ';real'; Chihuahua's because they don't bark and nip. I guess it never crosses their minds that they may just be trained. Even the pup.
The stares and mothers grabbing their children and pulling them far away from my vicious dogs.... Yeah, like they'd lick them to death.

Millypeed- is Amy a yellow lab?
We used to take our pit and doberman to the park all the time. It wasn't a dog park, but dogs were allowed off the leash and they were both really good and would just run around and play. Never had any problems with them running off... I had two instances where they would run up to someone to go say hi and one girl actually screamed and ran away. My dobe stopped and got scared and ran back to me haha I couldn't help but laugh. They have never shown aggression toward anyone or anything, but just the sight of them scares the crap out of some people =)
I've got a black and tan dog, shes a mongrel but shes rottweiler, rodesian ridgeback and labrador cross thing!

My peeve is now shes old she wee's all over the floor because her legs are too stiff to stand and ask to go out.

She makes up for it by being a incredibly loving friendly dog and so little effort is needed to keep her - even though we're willing!
I have a dalmatian, who (like a lot of dalmatians) can be quite dog-aggressive, so I dislike the way a lot of other dog owners just let their dog race up to mine obviously thinking that coz Mr Disney made a film about these dogs they must be all cute and cuddly with all other dogs, not so!! There's usually a 50/50 chance my dog will get all huffey with the other dog and sorry but I don't wanna take the chance so he's always put on his lead, and then the other dog owner get's the hump !!

I never get this problem when I walk my friends rotweiller, and she's as soppy as anything with any dog, strange that !!

I also get extremely peeved when people just walk straight up to my dog to fuss him without asking (no, he's definitely not people-aggressive, but not all dogs are so they should always ask!!). Although that applies to all breeds of dog dunnit :)

Vets who have pre-conceived ideas about Bassets - especially their idea that they 'all' have bad backs. They don't!!! (necessarily). We've had 16 over the years (that we've kept, more that we've bred) and have only ever had one who developed spondylitis at around 8. His pain was controlled, he walked again after some time off his legs, and lived a good quality life until he was 14 without any further back trouble.

Edit - I REALLY don't understand why the thumbs down for this reply? And I'd love to know the thinking behind this response? Shall I delete it if somebody is offended?
I own two GSD's who I adore, and I love them dearly.

I am really proud to walk my dogs and introduce them to people because their behaviour, nature and temperament is excellent.

My pet peeve is the first thing everyone ask's when they meet them is ';Does he/she bite?'; it infuriates me!!!!!!

My GSD's are not the slightest bit a aggressive and are 2 big babies, they are very brave and fearless and extremely protective, but never ever aggressive
dobiz rule %26amp; kit kat 8 i feel your pain. i too have a doberman and hes great .people pick there dogs up cross the road turn and walk away anything but come up and say hello.how you meant to socialize if no one wants to talk to your dog.pure mentalism. look at the statistics world wide about dog attacks then see what percentage is caused by dobermans its laughable why are people scared of them?
People think she's a boy because she is big- hello? Hot pink collar with VIOLET spelled out on it- she is not a boy people
