My Uncle had a Whippet that I grew up with and he had to have his tail removed after he broke it. Anyways, my Uncle always felt guilty about it because he was the one throwing the ball when it happened. A little while after he passed, he came to me in my dream. My Uncle was coming over and when I opened the door, his Whippet was standing there and I just focused on his big, long tail wagging. I just stood there at the door staring at his tail and that was the entire dream. I believe it is their way of telling us that they are OK. You know how they say that their pain is taken away and they are healthier than ever. Seeing his tail was enough to make me believe that he was OK and that he had his tail back. What does it mean to dream with your dead dog?
It is just a way of dealing with grief. I deal with this a lot with even relatives that have seemed to visit me in dreams, but end up leaving me. I think it is your minds way of healing, and almost giving you a chance to relive your time with them. It is completely normal. All dreams are comprised of your conscious and sub-conscious thoughts, so at times they can get a little weird.
My feelings on this is that your pets come back to visit with you while you are in the dream state, and they want to let you know that they are still with you. I feel that animals do go to heaven and they are waiting for you and when you dream of them it's their way of telling you that they miss you and are thinking about you. I dream of several of my pets on occasion and it always makes me feel better to see them and to interact with them again.
