he is O.K. with people. But when my friend wanted to play power game with him/jumping and sounding aggressivee/ he didn't take it.He started barking and nearly attacked him....Is it normal for GSD,even if he is a puppy.I am the only owner, never anybody gave him treats.
I know GSD can be overprotective,GSD owners. When your dog has to protect you?
Well, I just finished reading a book on German Shepherds and it said that the dog will do whatever it takes to protect the owner, even if it results in the dogs own death. Maybe that protective instinct is coming in. But it said that when the GSD is a pup, never do anything to aggressive for it to handle. So you may want to tell your friend to go a little easier on your dog as its a puppy. But even when its an adult, don't let you or other people be too aggressive with it, even when playing, because the dog needs to protect itself and its owner.GSD owners. When your dog has to protect you?
That's no protection that's possessiveness and your dog showing they are dominant over you. Your dog DOES need obedience training. If you let this continue your dog will just become aggressive as it gets older and that will land you in court over a dog bite or two.
Train your dog.
Your dog should never be attacking anything. The big mistake people make is thinking that dogs are naturally ';protective'; of them. The problem with this is the dog doesn't know not to protect you from your friend or another over-exuberant dog and this is where injuries and lawsuits come from. You need to train your dog to follow your commands and that means no attacking.
To have a trained protection dog means many hundreds of hours of specialized training so that the dog follows your commands exactly every time.
Anything else is dangerous.
This is what GSD's are known for--protection. When the other dog was jumping on you, he took this as a sign of danger that his owner might get hurt. As for other dogs and things, he should be fine around them unless one shows signs that they may injure you.
They should also be fine around people unless the person shows they are going to try and attack you (his owner)
GSD's are very protective of their family. Does he listen to commands? Verbal and nonverbal? This is very important especially with GSD's. When people step onto your property they are very cautious because that is his turf. Just be aware of that.
Other than that I don't think anything is wrong with your GSD
either your dog is becoming dominate over you because you don't show qualities of a ';pack leader'; or your dog was left to young from it's brothers and sisters. The dog should had stayed with it;s brothers and sisters from at least eight weeks. Don't baby him be firm.
NO 5-month old puppy should be protective. It goes against their survival instinct.
If your dog is barking and lunging aggressively at strangers at this age, it is based in fear, and it does not denote mental stability.
