Now that i know Kiley gets along with my aunt's dog (shepherd mix named Guinness) he's been over a lot more to hang out. He's a rescue dog that was kept in a backyard for the first year+ of his life and has no social skills (known to be reactive with them, but not me.)
Kiley's been teaching him how to play like a dog. Normally he paces around and whines, even with other dogs, but she takes the time to approach him with a play bow and try to entice him to play. If he doesn't want to, he growls and she stops - but more and more often he's been returning the play bows and running around with her.
Has YOUR dog ever done anything like this? Or have they ever helped a person, a child, in any way? We're also looking into therapy dog work...How has YOUR dog helped OTHER dogs?
Absolutely. Max helps to socialize all of the rescues I foster. Roxy has absolutely no fear of anything, big or small, so even the most aggressive prone dogs benefit from her obnoxious love.
I also use them as training examples for the other dogs, they've helped teach many behaviors to my rescues.
:)
And if they've helped a person, absolutely. They work exclusively as hospital volunteers to visit people in nursing homes and bed-ridden children. How has YOUR dog helped OTHER dogs?
Hi :).
My rescue BC has never really learned how to play dog. However, having the puppy around has really helped him in some ways. For the first time ever last night on the bed, they were wrestling and playing. Luke has NEVER played dog, and this was just an awesome thing to see. So Sophia is helping Luke.
As for have they ever helped a person? Yes. Me. Mentally, emotionally and physically. Every. Single. Day.
It's so awesome how animals have such a way of being pleasant about helping others, to include animals...and I don't even think they know it!
My 2 dogs (rescues - Chihuahua/Min Pin mix, posible and a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix) are just awesome! They make people smile and laugh all the time. When we got our 2nd dog (3 mos old), which is our female, she was really timid and didn't know what toys were whatsoever! Our male dog, almost 2 yrs old, showed her the ropes! Now those two are stuck together like glue on a stamp!
He has taught her not to fear people and he helped potty train her! She mimicks everything he does!
They are just the BEST ever! So loving and encouraging!
My dog hasn't done anything quite like that.
My dog was used as a ';reward'; in an agility class I took. There was another dog that didn't really like treats, toys, or praise, but for some reason loved my dog. So when the other dog did what she was supposed to, the reward was getting to see my dog.
As far as helping people, she helps keeps *me* sane at least!
.
my dog taught our friend's dog how to swim which i think is pretty clever :)
also our neighbor's dog could recognize that our neighbor was pregnant before she even knew :) which i think is pretty amazing.

I rescued an older husky/lab mix, and our female taught him to play. I don't think he'd ever actually played before, he'd been abused and kept on a chain his entire life, so it was all new to him. He wasn't in the least aggressive, but had never been socialized and simply didn't know how to respond to our female. She taught him how to be a dog.
My dog taught a 5 month old puppy. I was working with the pup to get him out and train him. He didn't know to jump into the car, and my dog showed him how. He didn't know how to get out of the car, and my dog crawled from the front seat into the backseat and jumped out to show the puppy how. The puppy also laid down in the back of the car for the entire 30 minute ride (his first car ride), because my dog was laying down.
When in training class, if two dogs weren't getting along, space was made, and my dog and I went between them because he wouldn't fight, and I had the right mentality. The others stopped fighting and just behaved.
My dog is a certified Therapy Dog, and we are planning to visit the hospital here in Madison, as well as our local assisted living facility.
My dog has also helped me with depression.
He helps out a lot.
Well my schnauzer has helped me! she is not really consider my dog or pet . She is more like my best friend i can talk to her and she listens with out talking back. When im sad or depressed she is their to keep me company. I spoiler her and she spoils me by being my buddy! She is more like human too because she act different then any other dog she is trained so she knows wrong from right.
I guess what im trying to say is the a pet dog or cat is a humans best friend . There is no companionship then one you can have with your DOG! They become family .
Yes when we got Kiko one of my male Akitas, he was shy and did not want to play much, so Bo my Newfoundland took over as pop I guess, he would roll over and paw at Kiko and Kiko would say like, huh what is this, in about 3 wks, Kiko was out of his shell, running and playing and he is such a great dog, now he wants his tummy rubs, plays with the frisbees and loves to catch them, runs all over the house.
you might say, Bo was his Therapy Dog.......
Bo, is a gentle giant with all animals and people.
