How many people actively play with their dog when they go to a dog park. I hardly ever see people playing with their dogs, just milling around and talking while their dogs run around and entertain themselves.
Do you think it is healthy/normal to take your dog there and just ignore it expecting others to entertain it?Do you play with your dog in a dog park?
Before we moved to our property, we lived in the city with a very high strung Kelpie and we used to take her to the park. The park was full of people that used to just use it as a social place to gather and let their dogs run crazy, bullying other dogs, crapping everywhere (you're meant to pick it up here, bags are provided) and causing fights that they would just ignore. We ALWAYS throw the ball/frisbie/toy for our girl, if we didnt, she would just sit at our feet looking at the ball she dropped there until we throw it.
I find it very lazy and unacceptable to use a dog park and other people's dogs to do what is YOUR job, exercising your dog.
Socialising them is different, but people need to be responsible and watch their dog in the park.Do you play with your dog in a dog park?
I used to play with them at the dog parks, never talked to anyone. I stopped taking them cause they're pit bulls. They weren't d.a. until I stopped taking them, I had to stop because people were constantly giving me problems about them. Funny, a couple of times we were there by our selves and other people showed up and asked us to leave. Now my dogs don't get socialized enough and they are becoming more and more aggressive towards unknown dogs. Very sad that the breed is under such heavy persecution.
I think that a dog park is for the dogs. If they want to play with another dog, let them. If they want to play with you then you should. Bringing a dog to the dog park brings on a lot of responsibilities of not only looking out for your dog but others as well. A dog park is like a regular park in the sense that parents don't try to interfere with younger children when they are playing with other children but try to oversee them and mke sure that they are not harmed. On another note: Some pet owners are responsible but others aren't so they do not have their pets vaccinated properly.
We don't usually go to a dog park but we do go down to the shore and in the countryside where we always play with out dogs. Either running around with it, playing with a tennis ball - we have a tennis ball thrower so they get lots of exercise - or sometimes the dogs run around with each other. If we go to a lake one of our dogs goes swimming in the lake but the other one hates water except from rain so he doesn't go in.
I would never just ignore my dogs -if people aren't willing to look after their dogs properly they should never have got one in the first place. Dogs are an active animal and need lots of exercise and looking after.
=)
People go to dog parks for training their dogs or just having a run. If you want to play with your dog, just go to normal parks and chuck balls or sticks. Dogs wold love it.
Always and if you dont you shouldn't own a dog
yes we go to the dog park every day as long as it is nice outside, but yes a majority of the people drop there dogs off and then have social hour and don't pay attention to there dogs but I bring a little beach chair and sit out there and watch my dog or play fetch for a few but she loves playing with other dogs, but my dog is extremely socialized too so theres no worries there but i have been known to tell people to clean up there dog's poo and some that they need to leave because there dog is too aggressive and trying to attack all the dogs and since there not paying attention etc etc but i love the dog park as long as you maintain control of your dog and have excellent voice recall with you dog
