It really depends on the dog... if you have a dominant aggressive dog this is a complete no-no. They can become terretorial about toys/food and may begin biting.

Never allow children to ever play tug-of-war with a dog. The dog will feel superior to the child and it may lead to issues.

Also children don't always learn control the amount of pressure and may injure the dogs teeth (especially puppy teeth)

My working shepherd was taught bite work and part of their training is tug-of-war. If that tells you a little about tug-of-war and aggression. They play this ';game'; with the aggressor in the bite suit who later on in their training they will move up to biting this person. Also these dogs are well trained in obedience work and when the command to let go is given, they do immediately, or for the ones that don't they are given a shock from the electric collar. Most of these dogs go on to police work.

They can also play tug-of-war with their handler. When teaching a dog to let go.You first stop tugging, then you give a command such as ';Out'; and at first open the pups mouth for them. When they let go gie lots of praise using the word ';Good Out!'; then give the toy back to the pup either in a fetch of begin tugging again. Repeat this so the dog understands that ';out'; is part of the game and not just so you will take the toy away from him. Always take the toy away though before he gets bored with it, so you can place your dominance back over him and he won't lose interest in a valuable teaching toy. This toy can now be used as a reward for other obedience. (heeling, come, sit, down etc.) when he follows a command you give a release command, that says he can stop sitting and he can now play with his toy. then you ';out'; and go on to next command.How do you play tug o war with your dog?

Yes it's okay to play tug-a-war with your dogs. It keeps them active. You can buy a tug-a-war dog toy at the store. Once you get one you can sit on the floor with your dog and kind of wave it around. When you want them to stop playing just put the toy up.
yes, it's totally fine and fun to play! get a special rope from the pet store, so that she learns this is the acceptable thing to play tug with. You sure can let them win (people can be retarded about this ';oh no, you'll make her think she's dominant if she wins...'; it's called training, and you're the boss of her food...). Make sure you put up a decent fight too so they feel happy and get excited to ';beat'; you!

When you're done, just say ';STOP'; or ';ENOUGH'; and drop the rope, go about your business!

I play tug with my pit bulls all the time! People are sooo intimidated by their dogs these days. It's totally normal to play with them!!!

3.Try to make sure no one wins so the game lasts awile but when it comes down to winning you should let the dog win sometimes for pride and he'd have the plesure of winning aganst his master

my dog plays tug o war with the sleeves of the sweat shirt i am wearing, lol, he cant really win, and i will just stand up to make him quit, he is a small dog.

2. Just grab a sturdy rope, tie a few knots in it, dangle one end in front of the dog, and hold on!

3. I would not let a dominant breed, like a Rottweiler, win.
