Hello, [:
My family already owns one dog, a rescue yorkie. We got him in October of '07, and when we got him, he was aggressive towards people, other animals, and food aggressive. But we have been training him, we even got a PERSONAL trainer, to help us out, and he is fairly social now.
When we got this dog, he was full grown. I
ve never had the opportunity to raise a puppy. Also, when I was born, we had another dog named Binky. But she was 8 years old and didn't play much. But I loved that dog SO much.
Anyway, I feel my current dog would like a playmate, and as I am gone at school, and my dad works in Nigeria, and mom works 2-3 hours a day, I feel it would be nice for him to have a playmate. I am so responsible and I am willing to spend a lot of time with this dog. I have also fostered puppies for a couple weeks at a time, and I havea sence for how much work they are. Also, when I fostered, it was my community service project, so I was responsible for the puppies the whole time. No help.
I think getting a puppy would do our family good. We hav eno small children, and we can afford extra vet bills, food, toys, etc.
Except, my mom isn't as willing to get a puppy as I am.
How can I convince her getting a puppy is a good idea?
Also, I spend 4 hours a day with my dog AT LEAST, so all of you people who tell me ';Shut up and go play with your dog';, I must say, ';Shut up and play with YOUR dog.';
[: heh. ok. Just sayin'.
Thanks SO SO much for all the help.I would like to get another dog?
Why did you feel the need to CAPITALIZE the word personal?
Can you afford to feed the puppy, not to mention emergency vet bills? I'm not talking about with mom's paycheck, I'm talking about with your paycheck.
Your mother may know some things that you do not in regards to your family's financial well-being. She may be thinking about the costs and the fact that she is working and you are in school all day, which is not fair to a puppy.I would like to get another dog?
Whether your mom can afford it or not isn't the question at hand. It is who wants another dog you or mom?
Sounds like you. Maybe mom don't want another dog.
So we cant convince her and neither can you , so why not just leave it alone.
I don't think it's a great idea tbh if your little yorkie had food aggression probs and is only 'fairly' social now. He's been used to having a house all to himself and an inquisitive puppy might be the last thing he needs. Puppies can try to 'share' other dog's dinner, and I doubt your wee fella will take kindly to that. Getting a puppy could cause all sorts of upsets over territory etc and the last thing you want to do is frighten the poor wee thing.
Personally I don't think it's a good idea, but if you do go ahead and get a puppy, I would get a girl as opposed to a boy. Males tend to fight for dominance, whereas a female just takes over.
Good luck
