How do you know when your dog is fully potty trained (outside the home)?

We adopted a stray and have been using the crate when we aren't home. We knew nothing about him and he is about a year old. He obviously had no potty training when we got him 7 weeks ago! He hasn't gone potty in the house for over two weeks and we take him out often (after playing, eating, sleeping, when he sniffs, etc.). He only tends to have an accident when he is playing a lot with our other dog. Anyway, he seems to have learned to sit by the door when he wants to go out at home. We took him to visit my mom and he was playing with our other dog and peed on her carpet! He seems fully potty trained at home. When do you think it's realistic to expect him to be potty trained outside the home? We use Petzyme to clean accidents. We also had him outside a lot at my mother's house and walked him a few times to make sure he wouldn't pee at my mother's house! Any suggestions? How do you know when your dog is fully potty trained (outside the home)?
Your dog is completely house broken when he no longer messes anywhere but his spot outdoors. This includes in all different situations and different places. If he messed at someone elses house, he was most likely trying to mark it as ';his'; territory, or else he was nervous in the new situation. Until you are sure he will have no more accidents anywhere, keep him by your side so he cannot wander around, especially at other people's houses!

For clean up, Petzyme is good, but I find Nature's Miracle to be the best! How do you know when your dog is fully potty trained (outside the home)?
When it flushes the toilet
When potty training your dog, you should always go to the front or back door, wherever you take them. This way, when the pup needs to go, he/she will go to the door on his/her own, this will show you that the dog is fully trained and knows where his/her business needs to be done.
see if he went potty in your house???
I guess all you can do is try. Maybe leave him out for short spans of time. Sometimes adult dogs catch on really quickly.
I think dogs might just get more excited at other people's house or maybe confused about the rules. My dog was fully potty trained at home and still continued to have a few accidents at other people's houses. So, every time she has an accident at a visitors house we take her right outside and she has learned that even when not at home, she needs to ask to go out first. Hopefully it will only take this one accident for your dog to go. Also, we seem to have had the most trouble when we take her to a house where another dog had previously had an accident on the carpet. I guess they smell it and then think it is ok to pee there. Good luck with the dog!
My dog always goes to the door when she has to go. Or she lets us know by some other method. like, running around like she's going crazy, or whining. Pay attention to him. If he starts sniffing around your floor, that usually means he's looking for a prime spot to drop one.

I've noticed that when someone visits our house and they bring thier animals over, or even when there are new people over, the dog will get really excited, and usually have an accident. It almost seems like she's too excited to let us know she has to go out.

when we were training her, we just took her outside every hour or so, no matter if she had to go or not.

She hasn't had an accident in the house in over a year.

Hope this helps and good luck! :)
