I adopted a 8 yr old dog from the shelter and his life just seems pretty boring he sleeps all day long because we r at work and when i come home at 3 id like to play with him but he doesnt know how. He just follows me around
How do i teach my dog how to play and what kind of games would be good to teach him?? I feel so bad for him because he just lays here and sleeps when we get home and thats no way to live, he shouldnt sleep his life away.
So please help me and give your suggestions thanksGood games to teach your dog?? how can i teach him to play?
You are one good pet owner! Get on the floor with him and try all kinds of things until you see him interested in something you do. Tug-a-war,
rolling a ball passed his nose. You might try giving him a treat now and then when he does good. But don't make it a habit.
Lots of love and praise when he does something good goes a long way.
Just keep it up and don't give up he will learn to play.
Have fun!Good games to teach your dog?? how can i teach him to play?
Good luck. Being that he is 8, will make it harder to train him to do anything. I would definitely make it start getting more exercise. take for 2 walks a day to start. then make the distance longer.maybe he will get his pep back.
The sign for dog play is you are on all fours front end low and butt high and give it shake. try beef raw hide strip. give it to him , take it back pretend to nibble on it then give it back this builds trust. try a nice walk, curl up on the floor with him. He never learned to play as a pup. That he follows you shows he recognizes you a his leader. He might just prefer to sit on the porch with you and watched the sunset enjoy the time you have with him.
if he has been (or can be) trained to sit and stay and he has a favourite toy/special treat he doesnt get ofter, then this could be ideal for a game i know of.
make him sit and stay while you go into another room. then call him. if he finds you right away, than you can try hiding. just remember that whenever he comes to you, you give him the treat/toy.
its kind of a hide and seek for dogs.
