Well Alfie just goes really floppy and doesn't want to play - at all, it's so unnormal. It feels like it's been one of the hottest days in the UK so far, and I've never had to cope with Alf in hot weather (he was only born in November) and I've realised that I;m so happy I don't have a dog-cat, its much more fun when he's being bad! He was kept nice and cool though. What about your pooches and how do you keep them cool?
Thanks! How does your dog act in hot weather?
Amy still wants to play ball no matter how hot it is, but she does tire quicker, thankfully! then she has a nap in the shade.
Milly's just naturally lazy so she hops on the swing, lays in the shade and sleeps.
This is Milly on the swing chilling!

They do like to go to the sea for a swim to cool down.

They drink water they lie down and they breath and sleep!!
they are covered in fur and kinda cool to you may still be very hot for them. and its not abnormal all living things (that are not adapted to heat) react pretty much the same. you get sluggish and don't want to do anything.
Yeah, our dog is really quiet all day. But he starts to wake up in the evening when it starts to get cooler.
And there's not a lot we can do to keep him cool - just make sure there's shade somewhere in the house or garden for him. And keep topping up his water. Oh, and we give him the occasional ice cube - he really likes playing with them and I'm sure that licking them must cool him down.
i keep my dog cool by giving her a hair cut every summer. she is a yorkshire terrier and even though they are supposed to have long hair, i dont want her to go through the suffering of heat just to make her look good. after the hair cut you could tell she gets more relieved.... also a good thing i do is when i give her water i put ice cubes to make it cooler for her. she likes to play with the ice afterwards
my dog likes to just lay around and be lazy. she pants alot. be sure to provide as much cold water as u dog would like. a good way to cool them down is a bath in cool water or for a dip into a pool (can buy small child's pool).
I I have a soft coated wheaten terrier, so he doesn't do well in heat at all. I take him for his long walk when the sun goes down, but we pretty much play inside to keep him comfortable. Fall is coming soon though, so hang in there.
When its above 80, I don't like to take them out. Our car doesn't have AC, so its far too dangerous to drive them anywhere. If we DO take them anywhere its no more than ten miles from home and the end is always filled with water and AC.
When they go to the dog park there are circulating pools there for dogs to jump in, and thats ALWAYS where they go first. They take a dip, go get some water, and they're off and running.
:)
He goes really unplayful, and just lies down in the shade. If i had a pool i'd probably let him play in that, but we just play with the hose and give him lots of water.
Ice in their water, they stay inside alot more, I run a sprinkler in the back yard for them in the evenings. ( I thought my dogs HATED water, but they really like to play in it)
well with my dogs one just lies there and one is all giddy
Yesterday i was at my bf's bbq and his dog was far too hot.
So he sprayed him down with cold water.
He was fine after that
Just keep making your dog drink he'll be fine x
ok i have a newfoundland and a pitbull....we have numerous houses and condos, dome of which are in wisconsin and kentucky!!!! HARSH CHANGES
Bailey our newfoundland has a lot of hair it really doesn't bother them that much....all you have to do is not have them out for long periods of time in the hot weather!!!!!
and when they come in lots of ice in the water bowl......the pitbull riley she just loves to run even when its got outside, doesn't even bother her.
so just keep them inside in the air conditioning....bailey even lays straight on it sometimes
Cub doesn't do very well in the heat at all, he overheats pretty quick. Though he loves to run around outside, when it is hot we have to limit it to small amounts of time and lots of water, but we really don't keep him out of the A/C for long.
they're really lazy. they just plop there on the floor. sometimes, if they have the energy, they'll walk to the door when i get home, but other times, they wait in the shade. they pant a lot.
