How do you train your dog to walk off-leash?

My dog is fine when walking with a collar. But when the collar comes off, he runs wild. He always likes to play chase in the yard. How do you train him off leash? How do you train your dog to walk off-leash?
get a really long lease, you'll see them in the pet store. use that have treats or whatever you use as a reward. wait till he gets far away and say come. if he comes quickly give him a couple of treats if it takes him a while to come to you give him just one. when your doing this in a high traffic area or a distraction area use a treat he really really likes like tiny pieces of boiled chicken as opposed to regular milk bones. it worked for my dog.How do you train your dog to walk off-leash?
I don't think that is a good idea. Most cities have a leash law and you can get a fine if the dog is off the leash. Plus it is dangerous, they could run out in the road. You could take him to a dog park and let him off the leash there.
What I have done with both my dogs, is start off leash from puppyhood. They learn from the very beginning that off leash isn't a huge deal, and that coming back to me is always rewarding.

The key to having a dog off leash, is that you must be more fascinating than the free world, and that's hard to do. Your first step is a darned rock solid recall!

Begin indoors, increase distance, from one side of the house to the other, then move out doors. Get a long training lead for the beginning, and eventually you can phase it out. Have fun!
u got 2 teach him 2 heel on the collar/leash and give him a treat when he does it right. the next step is 2 take off the collar (but show ur dog the treat before) if he stays by ur side when u take off the collar give him the treat. keep on doing this until u don't have 2 give him the treat but he just heels automatically. hope that helps!
First, you need to balance your dog's exercise routine. Three or four walks a day, and one ginormous romp in the yard. Set up hurdles, tunnels, and scatter toys here and there in the yard. Next, teach him the five basic commands- Sit, Stay,Come,Down,Heel. You can get instructions from eHow.com or a well-known dog training website.

As soon as your dog knows heel, try it off-leash. Walk around a room and keep him at your heel. Try it in your yard, then gradually work it to places with more distractions.

Good Luck!
