Do you REALLY walk your dog every day?

Everyone knows that you're supposed to walk your dog every day. Common knowledge. Everyone knows it.

But do you REALLY walk your dog every day? Be honest.

I own a two year old Siberian Husky, and I don't walk him every day. He gets walks when it is exceptionally nice out or when he asks - I can't say no when he sits at the front door with his paws wrapped around the doorknob.

On normal or moderately crappy days we play tag until he gets too pooped to run from me anymore, which is exactly how I like him to be around dinnertime into the evening. He's a rambunctious little fatty if he doesn't get a good run out. :xDo you REALLY walk your dog every day?
I set my alarm for 6 every morning so I can take my dogs out for a half-hour walk to the park before I go to work. After I get home from work I'll take them on an hour long hike if the weather's warm, otherwise I take them to the park again and let them run around for half an hour or so. If it's raining I'll take them out quickly to do their business and then play games inside, but I generally try to stick to two solids walks a day because they expect it and get really confused if I deviate from it, I've actually found that my energy levels have been way better ever since I started following this schedule, and it keeps the puppies happy.

A big backyard is no substitute for daily walks unless your yard is a national forest.Do you REALLY walk your dog every day?
Not everyday. Only 4 days a week because of my busy schedule. On Friday-Monday I take my puppy out for a walk. But on the other days I let her play outside to do her own things.
to be honest, with my work and school schedule, i am VERY tired by time i come home and sometimes cannot walk my dog. so whenever i can't take him outside to walk with him, i put him on a treadmill before i go to work. of course he prefers to be outside, but he doesn't mind walking on a treadmill.
How would I not? If I don't I have to pick up accidents off of my carpet! I live in an apartment.

Plus, my Husky mix is so crazy, that she needs walks 3 times a day. I take her hiking, back packing, running and biking. I do it in the hottest and coldest days.
Nope they don't! To be honest they only get walks every once in a while in the summer, and when we go to stores where pets are allowed. However, I do have a HUGE back yard that is completely fenced, so we play every day (weather permitting). They enjoy walks, but I think they enjoy playing while getting their exercise. Bring on the thumbs downs!

Wow, 7 thumbs downs? I'm just being honest, unlike half of you people on here. My dogs are ';very healthy'; according to my vet. Perfect weight, perfect teeth, perfect health. And to top it all off, they are happy too!
no i my ten-year old dog gets walked once a week and is perfectly but i guess it just depends on the dog but it wont hurt to skip a day or two
lol ';He's a rambunctious little fatty if he doesn't get a good run out. :x'; to funny.

I never walked my dog everyday, I would do my best to play with her and tire her out, or I'd take her with me to the store or to return a movie so she at least got some sort of walk.

When I did walk her I would make it worth her while and go for long, long walks.
Yes, they get two a day if time allows. Walking is obviously good exercise, but it has more benefits than just that. It is good for them mentally, their behavior, and general happiness. My dogs get sad when something prevents a walk. They are also more inclined to become spiteful with their behavior as a lesson to me.

No offense, but a husky REALLY needs a walk a day. Not just because of their energy levels, but because they are a working dog. If your dog could speak English, he would say, ';Mommy/Daddy, please take me for at least one walk per day';.
I chase her around the yard most of the time.(She goes crazy) %26amp; When I'm not lazy, I take her for a walk/jog around the neighborhood.
Honestly, I walk my dog twice a day and if I miss one walk I try to make it up with a longer walk and some extra playtime outside. I don't think that its bad if you dont walk your dog everyday as long as he gets some type of exersice. Besides I am in independent study so have the time to take my dog out and unfortunately not everyone does.
No.

But with my breed, a walk is not required every day. My dogs can get the same if not more exercise here playing %26amp; running around. An hour or so of exercise daily is all my breed needs.

I do walk them though as much as I possibly can because walking isn't just for exercise. The walk is so much more than just a walk. It's bonding, socializing, exercising, etc...it is excellent mental stimulation %26amp; it is what dogs do naturally they walk %26amp; follow the pack leader.
No. When it's nasty out, NONE of us enjoy being outside! We play some games inside the house though. Hide and seek mostly :)
Every day, several times a day. If he actually is a little overweight, it is because he needs more walks.
With my late dog I did not walk her everyday we did go to park when weather was nice. That said now knowing how truly important the walk is I plan on walking my new dog (when I get one) at least once a day maybe twice the only days I probably would not walk is if there is ice on the ground or its rainy with thunder/lighting. There may be days I am tried but really sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. There are days I feel too tried to do my daily workout but most of the time I just go and do it anyway because i know its good for me and a daily walk is good for dogs.

Lets face it the majority of people probably do not walk their dogs enough. There are some that don’t walk them at all. When people turn in their dog to the shelter I see far more who say they don’t take their dog on walks or they only do it once in while. I do see very few who said they take their dog 1 to 3 times daily.
NO. In fact, I RARELY walk my dog. Full time student AND employee. However, my dad walks him 5-6 nights a week, if not every night. And I take him on long bike rides 3-4 times a week, depending on the weather. Because we just started up on bike rides this year last week (It is only now just spring after all), we've only been going a mile or two a day. But on average, in the summer, we go 6 miles or so a day.

We go out in the yard EVERY day and play fetch though, with the chuck it for increased distances he has to run back and forth.
To be totally honest, no i don't. if im feeling sick or just cant be bothered i don't walk her, but i make up for it by play fighting and chase. I walk her about every second day sometimes ill walk her every day... depends on how im feeling. But she ALWAYS get exercise.
Nope. As a matter of fact I hardly ever walk my dogs. Where I live there is no safe place to walk - I live out in the sticks, but on a very busy ';commuter cut through'; dirt road. It's too dangerous with the idiots exceeding the speed limit and no place for us to get out of the way when they fly by.

My dogs get their exercise on my property. We go for off leash walks, we play ball, we train in obedience, we go tracking, I let them run in the pasture, and they love to chase each other when I allow it. They also go to training every Saturday. Sunday's I take them to town and walk them there when the weather allows it.

Dog's can get plenty of exercise without being walked every single day.
Our Shih Tzu used to get at least 1 short walk daily, he now has to be walked at least twice a day as he will no longer do his business in our back garden, he will only do it whilst on walks!

He knows how to get his walkies!
My lab is completly spoiled. He gets:

3 walks a day (an hour in moring and two other 20-30 minute walks throught the day)

Puppy day care 2 times a week (4 hours in leiu of hour walk in morning)

and typically 3-4 outings per week. (trails, preserves, athletic feilds, or dogpark)

Sometimes two outings in one day on the weekends.

Plus random trips to the post office (he is welcomed) or to visit relatives (also warmly welcomed).

I know we are completely insane but I just cannot be responsible for a beautiful animal confined against his will... Now, we also live in a row home in town but are moving to a single with a 3rd acre fenced so this all will probably scale this back a bit!

BTW - DONT GET A LAB IF YOU LIVE IN AN APARTMENT or work all day!!!
Depends on the weather. Living in Canada in the winter time it can get pretty darn cold and honestly I don't think my dogs nor me would really enjoy an hour to two hour walk with icy wind blowing in our faces. In the spring, fall and summer time, yes it is close to every day, I love taking my dogs for walks and they are good motivation for me to get off my lazy a** and get exercising, I love taking my two Labradors for runs and without them I don't know if I would ever be motivated to get out and be active, they are my running buddies!
Yes, and twice a day. The only time we don't go is during thunder, my dogs would not come outside. Rain doesn't scare us at all. Snow - it's not bad here in Georgia.

Can I add that I work full time (with commute it means 11 hours away from home), and I do dog rescue, so I have anything from 4 to 14 dogs at home at the same time. the only ones that are not walked are the puppies. And I am a mom of 3 teenagers.

I get up at 4.30 to have everything done before I live for work. One hour walk in the morning, and about 30-45 min after work.

I love walking my dogs.
I walk my dog 29 days of a 30 day month.
Some daily activity and exercise is essential, allowing freedom to move about in a natural manner. Lack of exercise leads to poor muscle tone, obesity, heart ailments, bone disorders and often results in emotional problems and dog behavior quirks. Dogs with no exercise subjected to overcrowding and confinement in cages for prolonged periods, often their entire lives, develop a great variety of physical and emotional disorders.

An exercised dog may rest more calmly at home and be less nervous when left alone. Exercise can improve dogs bone and joint health, heart, and lung function. Exercise makes show dogs look better and feel better to a judge's exploring hands. (Because a happy dog looks more gorgeous).
