i have a 85 lbs rottie who will need acl repair the 2 surgeries we are looking at are mtri and tplo if you have done either one, which one and how is your dog now? can it walk, play, run , complications im having alot of trouble deciding even if we dont do surgery and do re hap she will never get batter every time i take her for a walk she will limp and re injure it she will never get back her stability so i want to know what kind of success there is out there, my vet said he has never seen adog come out of a tplo with out a limp or able to do normal activity like befor85lbrotti has a acl tear. if uve had the tplo or mtri surgery what was ur out come how is your dog now? better?
any dog that has an acl surgery will limp for a bit. that is major knee surgery! as far as what to do for your dog: how old is he? what's his activity level like? if you don't repair it the other leg has a greater chance of tearing as well. if your dog is young and has a high activity level, consult with an orthopedist (not just your regular dvm). I have seen dogs that have had both types of surgeries done and they have been fine. I have also seen dogs that have rejected the tplo and had to have surgery again. the orthopedist should be able to guide you. I would also put your dog on a diet beforehand. overweight dogs have poorer recoveries than skinny dogs.85lbrotti has a acl tear. if uve had the tplo or mtri surgery what was ur out come how is your dog now? better?
Had them done on our old Chow. He was good to go until the day he had to be put to sleep.
